Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. 'Denarius' (Bronze, 20 mm, 3.00 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation. DIVI F AVGVSTVS Laureate head of Augustus to right. Rev. AVGVSTVS / CAESAR Augustus driving slow biga of elephants to left, holding palm frond in his right hand and scepter in his left. Cf. RIC 311 (for reverse). Thick earthen deposits. Fine.

This unusual contemporary bronze imitation combines a portrait of Augustus on the obverse with a reverse of the moneyer M Durmius struck in 19 BC
